San Diego is a pulsating town that is fabulous to look at. The city center area is particularly popular with visitors. The Gaslamp neighborhood as it’s known is a feast to the eye that has a broad variety of large and dramatic old structures that truly showcase their look. With many being over a hundred years old they are a have to see for every visitor.
The Victorians definitely knew how to devise striking and long lasting structures & a range of nightclubs, cafes & eating places, stores & theatres now occupies them and has prolonged their life and helped them to live on into the 2000s. To reach the beating heart of the Gaslamp quarter you only need to wander along 4th and 5th Avenue.
A superb supplement to the quarter is the Horton Plaza and Horton Plaza Park. An obvious feature is the 1st ever water fountain to contain electric illumination. This was a very ground breaking success. The genius who designed it was Alonzo Horton as perhaps you could have guessed.
If you are thinking how the Gaslamp district acquired it’s moniker, you probably will not be amazed to read it’s thanks to the gas lamps that were used to light up the neighborhood at the turn of the last century. Though the lamps are departed the name remains as a great reminder of initial expertise.
Large shops have moved into the Gaslamp district because it has become so popular. Macy’s is obviously extremely well-liked but there’re over a hundred stores for you to call on with lots of little quirky & independent stores providing vibrant and unusual presents. If you don’t want to miss on the latest movie releases then go to the multi-screen at Horton Plaza.
With its fabulous local climate, stores and things to do San Diego is becoming a very trendy destination for both family vacations and short vacations. From the fantastic shops and structures of the Gaslamp quarter to the seashores & aquariums you are spoilt for choice.
