Investing for your future is important, but did you know that being in the right investments is equally important?
CNBC recently surveyed 1,000 people who are actively enrolled in their company plan.
They found that 52% of them were more confused about their investment plan options than they were about their health insurance plan.
46% did not know what their best investment options were and 34% felt a great deal of stress over correctly allocating their money.
No big deal as long as I invest consistently right?
Let’s look at the math.
7% is a typical return advertised by annuity companies as a “good” return as they try to sell you a product based on scare tactics…………Sorry. That is a story for another day.
Say you invested $200 per month for 30 years and gained 7% interest, you would end up with $245,617.
However, the S&P 500 (which tracks the top 500 companies) has averaged 11.85% interest since its inception.
The same $200 per month for 30 years at 11.85% would end up at $683,000!
They say ignorance is bliss, but in this example ignorance would cost over $400,000.
