Shopping Mall Parking Charges My Smart Money Tips

21 January, 2015

Have you noticed a change in your lifestyle recently since the recent fuel hike and increasing prices of goods and services?

We now try to plan our weekend shopping trips better to avoid more than 1 car going out at one time. We also tend to monitor the time we spend in the mall to avoid going into a new hour and incurring more parking charges. Parking charges in the Kuala Lumpur malls have been getting terribly expensive especially on weekends and flat rate parking is fast becoming a thing of the past now! I have listed below the parking charges of the 4 most popular malls in the Klang Valley so do think carefully before you indulge in that full day shopping spree!

Midvalley Megamall/The Gardens at Midvalley:

Midvalley Megamall used to do a flat rate of RM1 a day several years ago when they first opened. However, with the opening of The Gardens, the parking rates have now gone up!

Weekdays:

  • First 3 hours – RM1
  • Subsequent hour – RM1
  • Maximum Charge – RM7

Weekends:

  • First 3 hours – RM3
  • Subsequent hour – RM1
  • Maximum Charge – RM9

Flat Rates:

  • RM1 per entry (from 12 midnight to 7am)

To date, the Premier parking charges at The Gardens, Midvalley haven’t been implemented yet but I’m sure it will only be more expensive.

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur:

The new spanking Pavilion Kuala Lumpur right on Jalan Bukit Bintang has lots of wonderful shops and sights. However, perhaps due to its swankiness or location, it’s parking rates are one of the highest I have seen which I have listed below:

Mondays to Fridays:

  • First hour or part thereof – RM 3.00
  • Every subsequent 1/2 hour or part thereof – RM 1.00After 5pm – 3am
  • First hour or part thereof – RM 3.00
  • Every subsequent 1/2 hour or part thereof – RM 1.00
  • Maximum – RM 5.00

Saturdays:

  • First hour or part thereof – RM 3.00
  • Every subsequent 1/2 hour or part thereof – RM 1.00After 12pm – 3am
  • First hour or part thereof – RM 3.00
  • Every subsequent 1/2 hour or part thereof – RM 1.00
  • Maximum – RM 5.00

Sundays and Public Holidays:

  • First 3 hours or part thereof – RM 4.00
  • Every subsequent 1/2 hour or part thereof – RM 1.00

Suria KLCC:

Suria KLCC in the iconic Twin Towers comes a close second with equally high parking rates as below. Perhaps this is to suit the expensive stores it has!

Monday – Saturday:

  • First hour – RM3
  • Subsequent half hour – RM1

Sunday:

  • First 3 hours – RM4
  • Subsequent half hour – RM1

Special Rates after 5pm on weekdays:

  • First hour – RM3
  • Subsequent half hour – RM1
  • Maximum charges – RM7

I caught a movie there recently after work and we ended up paying RM6 just for parking!

One Utama Shopping Centre:

I find that this is one of the cheapest malls to park in. The only problem is the crazy traffic you have to put up with on weekends! One Utama Shopping Centre doesn’t have different parking charges on weekdays and weekends which is a real bonus!

Normal Parking:

  • First 6 hours – RM1
  • Every subsequent hour – RM2
  • Additional 10% if using a Touch & Go card

Platinum Parking:

  • RM10 per entry
  • Only applicable for Visa/Master Platinum cards

OneCard 3rd Floor Preferred Parking:

  • First 6 hours – RM2
  • Every subsequent hour – RM3

OneCard Lakeside Preferred Parking:

  • RM10 per entry (open from 7pm daily)

Dataran Parking:

The winner is definitely One Utama Shopping Centre! However, do be prepared to circle many times on weekends for a parking lot if you park in the normal parking area! I’m not really sure where the cheap Dataran Parking is so if someone knows please do share!
