The Higher Purpose of Wealth Building

11 August, 2014

I hope everyone enjoyed Easter weekend.

I personally enjoyed spending a three day weekend with my wife, family and friends. Lots of food and conversations with a little bit of work and rest thrown in the mix.

I believe this is the first time in my working career that I was able to be off for Good Friday and so I was able to really focus on what the week of Easter means to me and the impact it has made on my life.

I serve a God who made the ultimate sacrifice by sending His Son to earth, to die a horrible death on a cross, for MY sins. While I may never realize the full implications of that statement, I am truly grateful.

While I was pondering the greatness of this gift, Genesis 1:27 came to mind. It reads, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

What in the world does this have to do with money?!?

If God created us in His image and as I have already stated, He is the Ultimate Gift Giver, that means we were designed to……………..GIVE!

I am inspired by Bill Gates who retired from Microsoft so he could spend the rest of his time here giving away his money. I look at Warren Buffett who may not have the inventive ideas that Bill Gates comes up with on how to help others, but he stroked a check in 2014 to Mr. Gates’ foundation that could make a bank bounce.  $2.8 billion!

To be clear, I am not saying you need to sell all that you have and give it to someone less fortunate, but I am saying that once you have some wealth in the bank and your family’s needs are taken care of, start looking past yourself for ways that you can make a difference in someone else’s life.

While I am not ready to write a check for 2.8 billion dollars (that would actually clear the bank), I can start by buying someone’s dinner or groceries for the week. Maybe I could pay the electric bill for someone who lost their job and is about to have their electricity shut off.

Maybe as I no longer have to focus on paying my bills, I can find a single parent living belowpoverty level that needs their electricity paid for an entire year or needs their vehicle repaired. Maybe I could even get to the point of buying them a new vehicle that doesn’t need as much attention?

I look forward to the day I can give to a genuine need without worrying about my own situation.

Until then, I will be trustworthy with what I have until I am entrusted with more.
